Deaf-Blind Services

Senior Outreach

Many people begin to lose their vision and hearing as they age. In some cases the loss is more severe than in others. If the loss is severe enough to cause the person to be unable to do things that they used to do then they and their family members may not know what to do or where to get help. When the person becomes too much of a burden the family may make the decision to put them in an assistive living environment. Unfortunately places that provide assistive living often do not have the trained staff to deal with disabilities related to hearing and/or vision loss. The person then becomes more and more dependant on his/her care givers and more isolated as his/her independence decreases.

Our goals are:

  • To educate care givers and loved ones on the best ways to work with clients have hearing and/or vision impairments.

  • To offer training to clients on how to use adaptive equipment and techniques to decrease dependence on others and to better enjoy leisure time activities.

  • To let clients, loved ones, and care givers know about the many resources available to which they might benefit.

We:

  • Provide clients, their loved ones, and care givers with training on how to deal with vision and /or hearing loss.

  • Provide clients with training on the use of adaptive equipment and techniques.

  • Provide clients with information on other resources that may be useful.

  • Match client with a trained SSP when necessary.
